Where we work in the ACT

ACT Inverter Testing carries out Evoenergy's five-yearly inverter test for solar and battery systems across Canberra and the rest of the ACT. We are based in Canberra and come to you.

Evoenergy requires grid-connected inverters on its network to be tested at least once every five years. The requirement and the test are the same in every suburb.

Which parts of Canberra do you cover?

We work in Belconnen, Gungahlin, North Canberra, South Canberra, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, Molonglo Valley, Tuggeranong and the rest of the ACT. The test is carried out on site, so we come to you.

Wherever you are, the test follows the same Evoenergy procedure: tests 1a and 1b at the inverter main switch, and tests 2a and 2b at the backup main switch on battery systems that have one. Our anti-islanding test page explains what each test measures, and our battery and backup systems page covers the battery tests.

Which electricity network am I on?

In short

In the ACT, the electricity distribution network is Evoenergy's, so Evoenergy's five-yearly test applies to grid-connected inverters here.

If you want to confirm it, your electricity bill names your distributor. Evoenergy sends a reminder when the test is due. The test must be done by an ACT licensed electrician. Evoenergy does not do the test.

Our Evoenergy inverter test page covers what to do when the reminder arrives.

How do I book a test?

Call 0400 331 705 or send your details through our contact page. A photo of your Evoenergy notice and your suburb is enough to start.

We confirm what is on site, including how many inverters there are and whether a battery has a backup main switch, then book a time in daylight, when your system can produce enough output for a valid test. Our hours are Mon–Fri 7am–5pm, Sat by arrangement. The process, step by step, is on our home page.

Questions about where we work

Who does periodic PV inverter testing in Gungahlin?

We do. Gungahlin is one of the districts we cover, along with the rest of Canberra and the ACT. The test is the same everywhere: Evoenergy's periodic inverter test, carried out on site by an ACT licensed electrician, with the declaration emailed to Evoenergy, pass or fail.

Do solar PV systems need anti-islanding testing in Canberra?

Yes, if they are connected to the grid. Evoenergy requires grid-connected inverters on its network to be tested at least once every five years, and Evoenergy sends a reminder when the test is due. Our Evoenergy inverter test page explains what to do next.

Does an off-grid system need the test?

No. Evoenergy's technical requirements do not cover systems that are off-grid or operate in a non-parallel configuration. The five-yearly test is for grid-connected inverters.

I live in Queanbeyan (or nearby). Do I need the Evoenergy test?

In Queanbeyan-Palerang and Yass Valley the electricity distributor is Essential Energy, not Evoenergy. Evoenergy's five-yearly test and declaration do not apply there, and Essential Energy does not publish an equivalent program. Our service area is the ACT only. If you are unsure, your electricity bill names your distributor.
